Add a customer and their pet

Every appointment belongs to a customer and one of their pets. Add a customer once, and you can book them any time.

  1. Go to Customers and click Add customer. You can also click New at the top of any screen, then Customer.
  2. Under Customer Information, enter their First Name, Last Name, and Phone Number. Email Address is optional.
  3. If the customer hasn’t agreed to get texts from you, untick Customer agreed to receive text messages, like appointment reminders. They’ll get reminders by email instead.
  4. Under Pet Information, choose the Animal Type and enter the pet’s Name.
  5. Optional: fill in Breed, Birth Date, Gender, Weight (lbs), Coat Type, Appearance, Health Issues, and Temperament.
  6. Click Create Customer. You’ll see Customer created successfully, and the new customer’s page opens.

The customer is named after their last name and pet, like “Smith - Buddy”. To change the name, see Edit a customer.

If Packyard says the customer already exists

Section titled “If Packyard says the customer already exists”

If the phone number or email is already on another customer, Packyard tells you who has it and asks Create a new customer anyway?

  • Click OK to add them anyway, for example for a family member who shares a phone.
  • Click Cancel to stop. Then click Open customer in the message to go to the existing customer.

Archived customers count too.

To add a partner or someone else who picks up the pet:

  1. On the customer’s page, click Add contact under Contacts.
  2. Enter their First Name, Last Name, and Phone. Email is optional.
  3. If they want text reminders, tick Opt-in to receive SMS appointment reminders. They’ll get a welcome text.
  4. Click Add Contact.

Reminders, receipts, and agreements go to the contact marked Primary. To change who that is, see Edit a customer.

  1. On the customer’s page, click the Pets tab.
  2. Click + Add pet. On a phone, tap Add next to Pets.
  3. Fill in the pet’s details and click Add Pet.
  • Weight sets the size (Small, Medium, Large, or Giant). You can change the size cutoffs in Settings → Pet Sizes.
  • Add a pet photo by clicking the pet’s round picture on their card.
  • Notes about the customer go in Client notes on their page. Notes about a pet go on the pet’s card in the Pets tab.
  • Pet won’t be groomed again? On the pet’s card, turn on Do Not Book and enter a reason. The pet no longer comes up when you book.
  • Booking from the customer’s page: click Book appointment. If they have more than one pet, choose Book for and the pet’s name.
  • Customers who book online are added automatically.
  • Only owners and staff can add customers and contacts, so groomers don’t see Add customer. Groomers can add and edit pets, add client notes, and upload pet photos.
