Take payment with Tap to Pay
With Tap to Pay, your phone is the card reader. The customer holds their contactless card, phone, or watch against your phone, and the payment goes through. You don’t need a terminal or any other hardware.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Your business needs to take payments with Stripe. See Connect Stripe.
- You need the Packyard app on a compatible iPhone or Android phone. See Phones that work below. Tap to Pay doesn’t show in a web browser.
- The appointment needs to be Ready for Pickup. See Check in and check out.
- Only owners and staff can take payment.
- Open the appointment and tap Check out. The Checkout window opens with Tap to Pay already selected.
- Check the prices and any discount.
- Ask the customer about a tip, and enter it next to Tip as a % or $ amount. The tip is set before the tap, not on the customer’s card.
- Tap Tap to Pay. Your phone shows where to tap.
- The customer holds their card, phone, or watch against your phone until it’s read. On an iPhone, that’s near the top of the phone. On an Android phone, the screen shows the spot.
When the payment goes through, you’ll see Approved $[amount], and the appointment is marked paid.
To stop before the customer taps, tap Cancel Tap to Pay. You’ll see Tap to Pay cancelled. Once the card has been read, the payment can’t be cancelled.
