Send a payment link

Send the customer a link by text or email. They open it on their phone, add a tip, and pay by card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. The appointment is marked paid when they do. Good for curbside pickups or customers who leave before paying.

  • Your business needs to take payments with Stripe. See Connect Stripe.
  • The appointment needs to be Ready for Pickup. See Check in and check out.
  • Only owners and staff can take payment.
  1. Open the appointment and click Check out. The Checkout window opens.
  2. Check the prices and any discount.
  3. Click Send Link.
  4. Click Text link or Email link.

You’ll see Payment link texted to ***1234 (or emailed to), and the window shows waiting for payment. You can close the window. The link keeps working, and the payment is recorded when the customer pays.

When the customer pays with the window open, you’ll see Paid $[amount] (tip $[tip]).

  • By text: “[Pet]‘s groom at [your business] is ready. Total $[amount]. Pay here:” and the link.
  • By email: the subject “Your bill from [your business]: $[amount]”, with a Pay now button.

The link opens a page with the bill, tip choices (Add a tip, Custom, or No tip), and a Pay $[amount] button. They can also tick Save my card with [your business] for future visits, so you can charge that card next time or for a no-show fee.

  • The link goes to the customer’s main contact phone number or email. To use a different number, update the customer first. See Edit a customer.
  • Links last 7 days. After that the customer sees This link has expired. Send a new one.
  • Resend sends a new link and cancels the old one. Cancel link stops the link. A customer who opens a cancelled link sees This payment was cancelled.
  • If the customer pays some other way, for example cash, the link is cancelled. It’s also cancelled if you cancel the appointment or mark it a no-show.
  • “This client replied STOP to texts.” means they opted out of your texts. Click Email link, or show a QR code.
  • “Texting isn’t set up for your business yet.” or “Emailing clients isn’t set up for your business yet.” means that channel isn’t ready. Try the other one, or show a QR code.
  • “The text didn’t reach the client. Try email instead.” shows if their phone couldn’t get the text.
  • Card payments must be at least $0.50.
  • Tip choices on the customer’s page are 15%, 20%, and 25%, or the tip percentages you set for Square before switching to Stripe. The customer can also pick Custom or No tip.
  • Watch for a warning after payment, like This sale was already paid another way, so the client has paid twice. Refund one of the payments. See Issue a refund.
  • Receipts: after paying, the customer can click View your receipt. You can also send a receipt.
  • You can close the checkout window while you wait. When the customer pays, the appointment is marked Completed on its own.
