Packyard + Stripe: get paid without a card reader

Text a payment link, show a QR code, or charge a card on file. Customers add a tip and pay on their own phone, and the appointment marks itself paid.

Checking out an appointment in Packyard with Stripe

What you get with Packyard + Stripe

Everything you need to take cards, and nothing to plug in.

Payment links by text or email

Send the bill straight from checkout. The customer opens it on their phone and pays by card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Good for curbside pickups and customers who leave before paying.

QR code at the front desk

Show a code on your screen. The customer scans it with their phone camera, adds a tip, and pays. You see it go through right away.

Cards on file and no-show fees

Save a card yourself, or let customers save their own when they pay. Charge it at checkout in one click, or use it for a no-show or cancellation fee.

Tips without the awkward moment

Customers pick 15%, 20%, 25%, a custom tip, or no tip on their own phone. Tips are recorded on the appointment and tracked by staff.

Refunds and disputes in one place

Issue full or partial refunds from the appointment. Refunds made in your Stripe dashboard show up in Packyard too, and a disputed charge is flagged on the appointment with a link to respond.

No hardware to buy or pair

No terminal, no reader, no charging cable in the van. If you have Packyard open and the customer has a phone, you can take a card.

Before vs after Packyard + Stripe

Same groom, a lot less chasing.

Before: chasing payment after pickup

The dog goes home, the bill doesn't get paid, and you spend the evening sending "just a reminder" texts and Venmo requests.

After: the bill goes with the dog

Send the link at checkout. The customer pays from the car, and the appointment is marked paid without you touching it.

Before: no card reader, no card payment

The reader is dead, back at the shop, or you never bought one. So it's cash, a check, or "I'll get you next time."

After: their phone is the card reader

A link or QR code works anywhere you have Packyard open: in the salon, in the van, or in the driveway.

Before: no-shows cost you the slot

An empty table and nothing to charge, because you never had a card.

After: a card is already on file

Customers save their card when they pay. If they don't show, charge the fee from the appointment.

Stripe integration FAQs

Details on how Packyard and Stripe work together.

Do I need a card reader or terminal?

No. With Stripe, customers pay by payment link, QR code, or a card on file. You can also take contactless payments with tap on phone: the customer taps their card or phone on yours. It works with most iPhone and Android phones, so there's nothing to buy or pair.

How do I set up Stripe?

The account owner clicks Connect Stripe in Packyard's Integrations settings. Stripe asks for your business details, your identity details, and a bank account for payouts. Once Stripe approves them, usually within a few minutes, you can take payments. See the setup steps.

How do my customers pay?

By card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, on their own phone. They can add a tip and tick a box to save their card for future visits.

Can I use Square and Stripe at the same time?

No. Packyard takes payments through one processor at a time. You can switch either way from Integrations settings, and past payments stay refundable through the processor that took them.

I use Square today. What happens if I switch to Stripe?

You keep taking payments with Square until Stripe is ready, then checkout switches over. Cards saved with Square can't be charged through Stripe, so customers add their card again, and Square Terminals aren't used with Stripe. If you rely on a Terminal, stay on Square.

What does it cost?

Stripe charges its own processing fees on each card payment. Any Packyard fee for your plan is shown on the Stripe card in Settings before you take a payment, and it never applies to tips.

Does Packyard store card numbers?

No. Card details are handled and stored by Stripe. Packyard only shows the card brand, last four digits, and expiry date.

What happens if a customer disputes a charge?

Packyard flags the dispute on the appointment with a link to respond in Stripe. Stripe decides the outcome and shows you the deadline.
